Theodore Goldstein, Ph.D., joined the Veracyte Scientific and Technology Advisory Board in July 2026.
Dr. Goldstein is a renowned bioinformatician, artificial intelligence expert, and cancer researcher whose career spans precision medicine, genomics, healthcare, and software.
He currently serves on the Accessibility and Affordability Working Group of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, advising on strategies to improve patient access to advanced therapies. He also is a board member and advisor to healthcare startups, including Lifeguard Health Networks and Point Health.
Previously, Dr. Goldstein was Vice President and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, where he led development of the HealthOS AI system, which integrates claims, laboratory, and electronic health record data to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor at UCSF Medical Center and the Scientific Program Director for the University of California, San Francisco, Institute of Computational Health Sciences, where he taught genomics, advised medical fellows, and helped develop genomic decision-support tools for cancer care.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Goldstein was Vice President of Software Development at Apple and executive at Sun Microsystems, where he invented Java Card, which is used in billions of smart credit cards worldwide.
Dr. Goldstein earned his B.A. in Computer and Information Science and his Master’s and Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He holds nine patents.
