Garret Hampton, Ph.D., joined the Veracyte Scientific and Technology Advisory Board in July 2026.
His career spans 35 years in academia and industry, with a focus on advancing oncology precision medicine. He is the former President of the Clinical Sequencing and Oncology Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he led development and commercialization of rapid next-generation-sequencing (NGS) testing in oncology.
Prior to that, Dr. Hampton was Senior Vice President, Clinical Genomics, at Illumina, overseeing the development of NGS tests in oncology, reproductive health, and rare genetic diseases. Before that, he held executive leadership roles at Genentech, Roche, BMS (Celgene), and Novartis (GNF).
Earlier in his career, Dr. Hampton was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego. His research on the genetic changes in cancer development at UC San Diego and in subsequent roles led to over 150 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Hampton serves on the boards of Ideaya Biosciences Inc. and Quanterix Corporation. He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at UC San Diego’s School of Biological Sciences. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Natural Sciences and Genetics from Trinity College Dublin and his Ph.D. in Cancer Genetics from the University of London.
