Decipher Prostate Cancer Test for Patients

Decipher Prostate is a genomic test that provides information about the aggressiveness of the tumor to help you and your doctor choose the best treatment approach.

Why would my doctor order a Decipher Prostate test?

Doctors initially estimate a patient’s prostate cancer risk using the Gleason score, clinical stage, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test.

This information helps classify patients into risk groups (low, intermediate, or high) to guide treatment decisions. However, these factors alone don’t always make it clear if, when, or how much treatment is needed.

The Decipher Prostate test provides additional insight into your tumor’s biology to help determine the management plan that is best for you.

How does the test work?

Decipher Prostate is a genomic test that helps inform treatment decisions following a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Young lab worker in a lab coat uses a tablet near a microscope. Two colleagues converse in the background. The tone is focused and professional.

Decipher Prostate is for patients diagnosed with localized or metastatic prostate cancer who have not received hormone or radiation therapy prior to sample collection.

The test assigns a Decipher score between 0 and 1.

  • A lower score means the tumor is less aggressive.
  • A higher score means it is more aggressive.

Your Decipher score is provided in a test report tailored to you.

The Decipher test uses tissue collected during your prostate biopsy or surgery to remove the prostate.

No additional medical procedure is required.

An older man sits at a table, looking thoughtful, with a woman behind him gently resting her hand on his shoulder. A healthcare professional shows him a medication bottle, conveying a caring and supportive atmosphere.

Your doctor receives your Decipher test results in a report tailored to your clinical scenario. They will review the report with you and discuss how it may guide your treatment.

What does the Decipher score mean?

Decipher Prostate assesses how aggressive the cancer is based on your tumor’s genomic characteristics. Your doctor may apply the Decipher score depending on your treatment setting and stage of care.

Decipher high risk: Earlier or intensified treatment may be considered.

Decipher low risk: Less intense treatment may be considered.
